Ellen Bukvic

I have been avoiding natural colors and using the bright saturated ones instead.

Inspiration comes to me in many different ways and at times it is even little every-day occurrences that stir my creative thought process. Right now the underlining impetus behind my visual art is to focus on the balancing of two opposing forces within the composition. I also have been carrying an element from a previous piece of art to the next, most recent piece. This helps have the pieces relate to each other, visually.

Besides the every-day inspirations, I also have the help of pre-existing art movements that have had artists who I find to be amazingly imaginative and inspirational. Such art movements are Northern Renaissance, Mannerism, Dada, and Abstract Expressionism. The artists I find to be helpful when I am at a dead-end in my art are Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel, Parmigianino, Pontormo, Joan Miro, Marcel Duchamp and Helen Frankenthaler. Artists and movements like these, with their contradictory styles really aid me in finding a direction again.

Art is like air for me, it helps me embrace the day in the morning. The greatest joy of the entire process of being an artist is when I am at my drafting table creating a composition for my next edition of prints. The second greatest joy is during a group, or solo, art opening when someone lingers in front of a print I have created and they are saying something about it.
